Excerpt from My Turn

>I was born Anne Frances Robbins on July 6, 1921, in New York City. My parents, Edith Luckett and Kenneth Seymour Robbins, were both actors. My father was a handsome, charming man with a booming voice and a quick wit. My mother was a beautiful, talented woman with a warm heart and a generous spirit.

>I had a happy childhood. My parents loved me very much, and I was surrounded by a large and loving extended family. I grew up in a comfortable home in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. I attended the Ethical Culture School, where I excelled in my studies and made many lifelong friends.

>After graduating from high school, I attended Smith College. I majored in drama and minored in English. I loved studying theater and performing in plays. I also met some of my closest friends at Smith.

>After graduating from college, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. I landed a few small roles in plays and television shows. But it wasn't until I met Ronald Reagan that my life really took off.

>I met Ron at a dinner party in 1950. He was a young actor who had just starred in the movie Knute Rockne, All American. He was handsome, charming, and funny. I was immediately smitten with him.

>We started dating, and soon we were in love. We married in 1952, and we had two children, Patti and Ron Jr.

>In 1966, Ron was elected governor of California. He served two terms as governor, and he was very successful. In 1980, he was elected president of the United States.

>I was proud of Ron's accomplishments, and I was happy to be by his side as he served as president. I learned a lot about politics and government during those years. I also learned a lot about myself.

>Being First Lady was a challenging but rewarding experience. I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. I also had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. I am grateful for the time I spent in the White House.

>After Ron left office, we retired to California. We enjoyed spending time with our family and friends. We also traveled the world and pursued our own interests.

>In 1994, Ron was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. It was a difficult time for our family. But we were determined to make the best of it. We took care of Ron at home for as long as we could. But eventually, he needed more care than we could provide.

>In 2004, Ron moved into the Reagan National Alzheimer's Disease Center in Los Angeles. He lived there until he passed away in 2004.

>I miss Ron every day. But I am grateful for the time we had together. He was the love of my life.

>My Turn is a love story, a political memoir, and a personal journey. It is a book that will inspire you, move you, and make you think. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
