The murder of Jenny Taliaferro sent shockwaves through Atlanta. The police quickly arrested two suspects: Corra Candler, the wife of Coca-Cola magnate Asa Candler, and John Slaton, a former governor of Georgia. Both Corra and John were close friends of Jenny's, and their involvement in her death stunned the city.
The trial of Corra Candler and John Slaton was one of the most sensational in Georgia history. The prosecution painted Corra as a jealous and vengeful woman who had killed Jenny out of spite. The defense, on the other hand, argued that John Slaton was the real killer, and that Corra had been coerced into helping him cover up the crime.
In the end, the jury acquitted both Corra Candler and John Slaton. The true killer of Jenny Taliaferro was never found.
